From a Teardrop to a Van

About 5 years ago, I came across the CLC Teardrop Trailer and fell in love!  Their teardrop trailers are not only beautiful but there was something about creating it yourself that captivated me.  I watched YouTube videos, scoured the CLC forums, read blogs, and dreamed of creating my own teardrop to take on adventures.  I knew I did not have the skills (or funds) to take on such a major project myself.  So the project stayed bookmarked on my browser for years.....and then comes Tim.

I sent my friend Tim the link to these amazing trailers.  The response was "That thing is beautiful.  I bookmarked their site."  Ahhhh a person who saw the same thing I did!  As our friendship began to evolve so did the dream of building my own RV.

Then came that beautiful fall day, where Tim and I enjoyed a day of hiking around Mt. Rainer, a cold drink, and a conversation that started with a simple question.  Wouldn't that be cool?...

Questions Answered With More Questions

 Let The Measuring Begin!

As per all the videos upon videos suggested we grabbed the measuring tape and began the numbers game. Bed size, bed position, sleeping position, platform height, so on and so on. Should we keep the interior panels & trim and what width will we gain? Carpet has to go and laminate flooring is a must! Loose the head liner and factory rear AC/Heat? Mind, buzzing.... Like a super hero responding to the cries for help of a citizen in need; Carrie to the rescue with a spreadsheet! Ahhhh... organization of thoughts and of course, more questions...

It Started with a question...

Wouldn't that be cool?.... A simple start really. Our conversation, "Wouldn't that be cool to do a camper van for weekend camping, over nights and trips? If only we had a van...." Little did she know, I did. The perfect platform for our custom creation had recently fallen into my lap. A clean 1999 Ford Econoline E150 Club Wagon "Chateau" with 86,000 miles and already gutted for wheelchair access. And so it begins!
